As always, thank you very much for such a lovely review.
KEEP BEING AWESOME AND STUFF
*grins* I'll try. I'm going to stick to lighter stuff for the moment, my mind needs a break from all the sadness.
The dream has a couple of references to Aztec religion in it. The Aztecs are one of my specialties (I'm a history student) and I slip Aztec symbolism into a lot of fics. The heart being ripped out and lifted high is a human sacrifice (you might have seen it in Apocalypto). Hiro as a stone statue is playing the part of a statue of a god. The river is one of the obstacles that a soul has to pass on its way to the land of the dead, although rivers occur in underworld's of many world religions, so that reference could be general. I also mention flint a lot. It was one of the most prized materials and along with obsidian was used to make sacrificial knives. I also mentioned a hummingbird in the first part: the time we spent together to your present it would take no longer than the beat of a hummingbird's wings.. Hummingbirds were also associated with sacrifice because of the way they draw nectar from a flower. The flower is the heart and its beak is the knife or thorn. I figured that Adam's probably well-read, so I indulged myself a bit.
