a. Name your 15 absolutely favourite fandom ships (try to pick different fandoms)
b. Ask people to see what trends and similarities they notice about your ships.

Coming up with 15 was hard.

1) Sparrow/Norrington (POTC)
2) Peter/Claude (Heroes)
3) Envy/Kimbley (FMA)
4) Pintel/Ragetti (POTC)
5) Gimli/Legolas (LOTR)
6) Adam/Hiro/Ando (Heroes)
7) Nicholas/Danny (Hot Fuzz)
8) Celeborn/Galadriel (Tolkienverse)
9) The Doctor/Rose (Doctor Who)
10) Roy/Hughes (FMA)
11) Ron/Draco (HP)
12) Vaughn/Sark (Alias)
13) Elizabeth/Jack (POTC)
14) Peter/Sylar (Heroes)
15) Faramir/Aragorn (LOTR)

Well, you obviously like slash, lol. :D Seems as though you pick pairings that aren't as popular/common/canon.

(P.S. Yay for Vaughn/Sark! I don't know anyone else who likes that pairing).

It is rare for me to fangirl over het pairings, I admit. And I do prefer the ones that don't have a thousand fics to their name, though I'm sure why. It does happen on occasion that I like the predominant OTP.

(I have no idea why more people don't ship this pairing. It's so obvious. Just look at all the angsty, angry tension between them.)

Is there a reason for that? Just curious.
I've noticed that sometimes the main fandom OTP bothers me just b/c people gush about it so much.

(I know! I don't think there's much slash in the Alias fandom, though. It seems to be mostly Syd/Vaughn & Syd/Sark.)

I don't know. My interest in het disappeared after I discovered slash. It's not until about a year ago that I got interested in het again. And I can't really read het smut written by anyone but me unless I'm really really into the female character. No idea why. There's also a big deficiency of female characters who I'd be interested in fic-wise. There's none in Heroes, for example (except possibly Eden, but they killed her; or Jessica).

Excessive gushing does get annoying if it's a pairing you don't like. I just don't find most main OTPs very interesting to begin with.

(Alias is a predominantly het fandom, something I had never encountered before. I don't think I would have been able to get into the fandom comfortably because of that).

Hm, interesting. When I discovered slash I definitely squeed over it more than het pairings, but I never really lost interest in the het pairings. But oh yeah, I'm the same with het smut. I couldn't stand it until recently, and now I can only read it for a few pairings. There's not much really good stuff out there.
(Eden! So mad they killed her).

Yeah, I get that.

(It's weird...I'm used to there being at least an active slash section in most of my fandoms).
