At least here in PR where it decides to take away our electricity on a whim for hours on end or simply lower the voltage, bringing it up and down and up and down so that I can't watch tv or get online and of course due to the brilliant timing of the universe, this shit begins just when I'm about to plug in the computer because the battery is drained. *strangles*

Oooh, not good.

I remember when we lived in our old flat, at one point our gas company got pissed off we hadn't paid the bill - actually the previous occupants - and responded by cutting off next door's gas supply...

Oh, that's crap. I've never had that happen, thankfully, though the water people do love to overcharge us because they don't read the meter properly. With the electric company (and water too), since we live in the sticks, we're the first ones they take it from and the last ones they give it back to.

That's one thing I don't miss about living in PR. Power went out at my parents' house (and still does) at *least* once every two weeks, sometimes more. Here in NJ, after three years, power has never gone out once.

Damn. We do have long stretches without power outages, but when do get them, half the time it's not just that day. It's the next day. And the next day, always around the same time at night when you kind need electricity to be to see. It's probably going to go down again today. In 3 years of living in Illinois, we lost power twice, but both times it was because they were doing major work on the power lines in our street, so you could see it was for a rational, existing reason. And it only lasted like two or three hours max.
