Heroes is weird

So. First of all, in the Countdown, when I saw Milo with stubble, I thought, "He's imitating Claude!" Totally random thought. I also misheard the narrator and thought he said that Mohinder was gifted with disappearing brain power. I have no idea what he actually said, but I think it's keenly accurate considering the eps. Although he's been like that for ages. But for that, I must go to

Apologies to all Mohinder fans, but the man is a MORON. Idiot. Imbecile. Pendejo. Seriously, what the fuck? If Maya, of all people is the one actually being rational in the conversation (although the was that one bit where she went "Fuck it. Let's have sex with the crazy guy.") this is BAD. 100%, extremely bad. Why is this guy still around?

I don't know what to think about the rest. I really don't. I still feel like I need more to form a proper opinion. I kinda feel like a liked some of it, though I can't really pinpoint what or why.

I do love Angela, though. I haven't liked a female TV character this much in a long time. I'm not sure how I feel about her being Sylar's mommy, though.

With Hiro and Ando I'm split. I liked their scenes much more than any of the measly, pathetic ones they had in the second season, but then there's the whole "You killed me" and "I don't trust you" (What the fuck is up with that?), which I really don't like. So.

So many things are up in the air. I just want Adam to come back on. I got this huge grin when he appeared for that second on the screen standing to some people that I didn't even notice (though I thought I saw Niki/whatever her name is now), because ADAM was there and I love this guy to little bitty pieces and I wanted to screw him right through the screen. God, that man's hot.

I'm still not sure about it myself. The whole Claire/Peter "Train me!" "I don't want to!" "Please! I need your help!" "I can't! Leave me alone! Don't follow me!" Plaude reflection kind of annoyed me, especially if they're not going to bring Claude back.

On the other hand: I'm strangely fond of Tracy Strauss. I guess it's just my love for the political/Washington DC potential storyline, but I totally did like her a lot more than any of the previous incarnations.

And yee! Adam! Even if it was for, like, a second.

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't even notice that! I was too busy being annoyed by Claire, who's irritating me a lot lately for some reason. Now it annoys me even more.

I liked her. Her storyline looks quite interesting. Jessica is still my favorite, though. She reminds me a lot of one of my original characters.

Adam! Lovely Adam. I can't wait till episode 4.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, Claire's still as annoying as hell. Although: she was a bit more proactive in this episode. Still dumb. And the fact that she's know "OMG SO SPESHUL!!1!" annoys me so very very much.

Jessica...well, Jessica could be very cool, sometimes. But Tracy seems to have an actual personality (which is more than I can say for some, or really, most of the other girls); she has a career, she has a reputation, she's doing something with her life.

He's not back till then? Bah. I do hear that Hiro's the one to dig him up, though.

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I hate that they did that. As if she wasn't annoying enough. But it does make me think about the implications for Adam. I prefer to derail any ponderings on her abilities to him, for obvious reasons. No wonder he thinks of himself as a god.

True. It's shocking that she's so nicely characterized in only two eps, considering this shows track record.

Yes, that's what the ep summary implies. I really hope it's true. That would be so perfect.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I still, still don't understand why she's such a big deal (within the mythology of the show; cynically, I know it's because she's young and blonde and pretty). She can heal; like she said, it's a freakin' lame power, when you get down to it. Adam's cool because he's smart, and manipulative, and awesome; Claire is...none of those things. I can't see her doing much good and/or damage at this state of maturity.

Seriously; I still love how careful they are not to name parties, but I'm totally seeing her as a high-up Republican lobbyist. I mean, the ice-queen bit was a bit too easy, but the writers managed to capture a little bit of the spark the Nathan as a politician story used to have.

Especially since it's supposed to be Adam's "wife" that digs him up ;)

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think her power's lame, but it is pretty pointless except for surviving and bringing people back from the dead. That's what really got me about the "please train me" scene. Is he going to train you to fly? To turn invisible? To move things with your mind? To manipulate people's thoughts? Because that's what Claude was teaching him to control.

Hee hee! Hiro is definitely the man for the task, then. But of course Ando will be jealous, and a threesome must ensue.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
For me it's a power that's really just nothing on its own; its coolness is proportional to the coolness of the person in possession of it. Adam's real power is the fact that he's managed to get old enough to have seen everything and come out of it all the wiser, if more amoral; Claire, at this point...it's only made her reckless. And I'm actually not a huge fan of reckless. And heh, yeah; it'd be hard to get the level of awesome achieved by Claude/Peter training sessions from Peter/Claire. "I don't have to do anything!" "Except fly!" *push* *splat* "Well, okay then. We knew you could do that already."

Threesomes are always so much fun; and Ando totally deserves someone who will actually trust him.

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that scene. I love the little startled look peter gets right after Claude throws him off the roof. It's so adorably dumbfounded.

H3e really does, The poor guy doesn't get the credit he deserves. I really should finish those Ando/Adam/Hiro snippets I have in my hard drive.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
I love all the subtle little "Acting!" things CE does in that scene; the very precise way he taunts Peter and leads him to the edge of the roof, the fact that he finds out for sure beforehand that Peter has flown, for sure (which is a writing thing as well, admittedly), and that grin on his face when he pushes him...man, those two. That was chemistry. I was admittedly less bored with MV this episode than I usually am but...he seriously needs CE around agian.

Seriously. Now with more betrayal and mistrust!

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
He really does. The scenes he did with CE were so much more fascinating and fun than any of the others.

I'm resisting the urge to get plotbunnies so hard right now. I don't have time for more bunnies! I'm writing a novel and I'm going to be starting a thesis soon and the classes. But I want to. I want to so badly.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what Heroes really needs more of; fun. The only real moment of it these past two hours was the "Thank you, turtle!" That made me laugh. But CE...CE brings so much more to the show, more than I think any of the new characters will.

And besides, aren't you supposed to be, like, packing? You leave tomorrow, right?

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, the turtle part was so goofy. I really thought he was hallucinating and he might wind up having a conversation with a turtle, which would have been cute if pointless.

I want CE back. I heard that Tim Kring is begging him again, though I'm not sure if it's true. But considering how often the writers get asked in interviews about Claude, he should be.

I do. Though I'm thisclose from finishing up. I only have this medium-sized pile of clothes to put into the tiny space left in three suitcases. I didn't know I owned so many clothes. That's what most of the stuff I'm taking is.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
The turtle part killed me; I was like...seriously? He can hear the thoughts of animals now? That's kind of awesome. And it was. And then it wasn't; I'd have preferred the turtle.

God, we all want CE back so damn much. Including Tim Kring. And he's in LA. And...*fingers crossed* He just...he has to. He's too awesome not to be on the show, much too awesome.

Yeah, clothes take up a lot of space. I'm lucky (?) in that I don't have many. Which is nice for packing, but means I have to do laundry quite often.

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the turtle was better. And does that guy have Isaac's ability now? They have to keep the paintings somehow, don't they?

I did go on this little shopping spree because I had basically two sweaters, which isn't nearly enough for winter, and I have a big weakness for jackets, so I bought one that I really don't need, but it looks pretty.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently so; I'm cool with it, basically, and the guy doesn't seem too bad but...Magical Negro stereotypes are hard to avoid.

Mm, I do love sweaters and jackets as well. I love fall/winter clothing, I must say.

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we need to see more to see what he's about. And I wonder what happened to Mr. No name Haitian. The insistence that he be known only by his nationality no questions asked really annoys me.

I love wearing long sleeves, which is one of the reasons living in Puerto Rico frustrates me. It's so hot over there, all the time.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
The "should've gotten Sprint" moment of blatant product placement was...somewhat encouraging. But I'm still not loving the fact that they got rid of the two black (and well liked!) characters, and brought in another blonde, and kept the blonde who was supposed to be dead, and the sexpot latina with no discernible personality whatsoever. And I actually liked Maya before; not so much, now. I hear that the Haitian's brother will be making an appearance, soon? So that may give us some more info.

Ah, long sleeves are awesome. That's why I could never live in Puerto Rico.

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Tim Kring has a thing for blondes, I'm nearly convinced about that. There are so many blonde women in this show that even the blonde women are complaining about it. And I really don't like the way they got rid of these people. What the hell is up with them shooting DL after he survived in New York?

The Haitian's brother? That sounds intriguing.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well, most men seem to (even the gay ones! Hello there, Russell T. Davies!) It totally doesn't count as diversity when evil!Claire has her hair dyed. No seriously, it doesn't. Oh yeah, poor DL; I always liked him, even though that whole storyline was never as interesting.

I know; maybe it's African guy.

[identity profile] tju-tju-tju-tju.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
About the Mohinder thing -- yeah, from the audience's viewpoint it's incredibly stupid, but think about it. Who wouldn't want to have powers, honestly? Mohinder's been surrounded by people who can do all of this awesome shit and all he can do is be a geneticist and use his blood to cure a virus. I think it's pretty logical of him, from a character development standpoint, to want powers of his own. He's not stupid; he just makes stupid decisions sometimes.

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
I get that, but what really pisses me off about it is that he's a supposed scientist who doesn't act like one. This has annoyed me since Season 1 when he complained that with his father there were only more questions, never an answer. That's what research IS. You start with one question, then soon you have five, then even if you find an answer, which most of the time is only half of one or less, you end up with five more questions on top of that. Don't go into serious research looking for easy answers. Unless you're extremely lucky, you're going to have to work at it and for a long, long time. He's in the wrong profession if he loses his patience so easily.

Specifically here, a professional who thinks rationally would not have used himself as a guinea pig with this untested substance on the pure assumption that it would work perfectly. You have to test it, look for side effects, check that it does work and won't blow up on your face, like if often does and did.

[identity profile] tju-tju-tju-tju.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I think probably all of that just means the writers don't really know anything about real research. XD Big surprise there...

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
They really don't. Research is a really hairy business. I was going nuts just doing my mini-thesis.

[identity profile] likeahobbit.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hiro frustrates me, seriously. If he would just LISTEN for two flipping seconds...

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I wanted to shake him, then slap him, then shake him again until the stupid went away. That could have been somebody pretending to be Ando, like Ando so sensibly said, or something seriously wonky going on. Hiro doesn't know anything other than that little bit that doesn't really tell him anything. Why is he punishing Ando for something he hasn't done and might never do? It was so sad when Hiro was about to leave without him and Ando said, "What did I do?"

[identity profile] likeahobbit.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I know, it broke my heart. :( I'm convinced that the bad guy in the future scenario was *Hiro*. Like you said, we didn't see much of what happened. It bothers me a bit that Hiro assumed that he was automatically the good guy in the situation, but I can see Hiro doing that.

[identity profile] guanin.livejournal.com 2008-09-23 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I thought to. How is he so sure that he isn't the villain? He probably doesn't think himself capable of anything but goodness, but people are often wrong about that. How far into the future was this, anyway?
