I went to four tours in Scotland with four different guides and they all said the exact said thing about Braveheart. Great movie, really rousing, but what a load of rubbish. A Lowlander with a kilt? And face paint? And no clan politics/rivalries? And don't even get them started on the title, which is referring to Robert the Bruce, a whole different person. Rubbish. But great movie.

Kind of like Elizabeth. Great movie. But what a load of rubbish. I've finally gotten around to doing some reading on the Tudor period and wow. The movie is even more off than I suspected. Norfolk, mister ultra let’s kill all the heretics in the movie? Protestant. He did conspire to marry Mary Stuart and Leicester was in on it, though. But certainly not in league with any papists. I think I can hear him rolling in his grave right now. And that whole deal with the Duke of Anjou, i.e. the guy that Elizabeth apparently really considered marrying, except there was that pesky religion problem in the middle. The Dudley marriages compressed into one I understand (it was when he got remarried in secret that Elizabeth banished him from court), but that plot never engaged me anyway, so eh. No doubt there's more stuff I'm not aware of yet, but I still love the movie. But what a load of rubbish.

I woke up at 7 today. Yesterday it was 6. Perfectly normal. Why is this perfectly normal? Why have I been awake for three hours before anyone else steps out of bed? And why do I feel a need to go to bed by 11 when I'm not going anywhere the next day? This is wrong. So wrong.

By the way, I'm back in Illinois now. The Tranport for London bookmark is still there. I'm not getting rid of it. No one would happen to have any connections in the BBC, would they?

In Illinois. I forgot to mention that, didn't I? I still feel like I live in London. I'm not getting rid of the Transport for London bookmark just yet.

It's unfortunate that what actually happened never seems to be good enough for the film industry, but I guess there's no point making a fuss if you're being entertained anyway. Elizabeth in particular I have a hard time getting righteous about, since it, ah, has so many other things to recommend it. X)

I can't really help you on the sleep thing. Maybe you're (dun dun duuun) becoming a grown-up, perish the thought?

I understand when they have to compress events to make everything fit into their 2-3 hour time slot (which is why I prefer miniseries; less compromise), but what really happened is so compelling that really, why would you want to change it? Especially the Tudor period. A reviewer on Amazon likened it to a soap opera. *snort* Yes, it certainly does. And it's doubly good for me since I adore Cate Blanchett.

It's because of having to wake up early this whole month, but I don't have to do that anymore. I guess I get a kick out of not needing people to drag me out of bed because it's past noon.

Hah. How true.

But, of course, I only watch that movie to root for Norfolk. I always want him to win. For some reason. ;)

Hee hee. Understandable. Personality-wise, I think he's an ass, but, yeah, shallowness tends to win out. Now I'm interested in learning more about the real Norfolk and his father,, who also got his head chopped off. You would think the son would learn.

I love how we're all so invested in CE that the only reason Elizabeth even seems to ping our radar is because he's in it. I know it's not entirely true, I do have some interest in Tudor history aside from it but...*Squee*! Norfolk!

I have never seen Braveheart and have absolutely no desire to. Just thinking about it makes me feel icky.

Well, with me it was originally because of Cate Blanchett, though I admit that one of the two vivid memories I have of watching it in the theatre are of that yummy scene at the end.

I rather like it. It's one of those movies I watched over and over on HBO. And yet somehow I don't remember Liam Neeson being in it. But apparently he was, because the friend of one of my Scottish guides was a double in the movie and she got his kilt as a pressie. Why does it make you feel icky?

The first time I saw it was because I was genuinely interested in Elizabeth I. But when I rewatched recently, it had become the Where's Norfolk Now? show, in my mind.

I don't know. It just...well, I don't like Mel Gibson, first of all. And just the whole atmosphere makes me feel dirty. It's all wet and grungy and I know, historically it probably was real wet and grungy, but...ew.
