After buying a new modem, we have internet again. Unfortunately, now the Router doesn't want to work. It connects to the computer fine, so it's probably because it's a new modem and it's going, "Who the hell are you?" I need to call my nephew tomorrow to see if he can coach me through fixing it (he graduated from a computer degree, so he's one of our go to guys). We can connect with the Ethernet cable, but I have to be at my grandfather's desk for that, so for the moment I only have internet for part of the time. At least there's internet in the house. For those couple of hours when there was none, I was having a low key freakout. I feel disconnected without it. *hugs internet*

En lieu of being productive yesterday (I got burnout, it's not my fault), I read an original slash novel that [livejournal.com profile] visiblemarket pointed out to me a while back. I was in a book buying haze and thought, 'why not?' I know I could just read fic, but it's a nice experience to read slash on paper. I love the physical experience of reading books. Lying back on the bed, leaning against a pillow, book solid in my hands, not getting eyestrain after five straight hours of reading an epic because I just can't stop reading, which unfortunately I've had to cut down on since my younger, more carefree days. And the Age of Sail setting was too tempting to resist (despite the fact that the Tudors have taken over m life for now, maritime history is still my biggest weakness, although Henry VIII did create the modern Royal Navy. I went to bed at 3 last night because I couldn't put it down. Thoughts of my own novel completely flew out the window. So sad.

Why am I on Amazon looking for more? This is so not what I should be doing.

Aww, that's great! I don't know if I could ever read slash on paper, though. Something about it would make me almost nervous, you know? But I'm glad you liked it. I assume you liked it, at least.

And just when I have my precious internet time, LJ decides to play dead.

Anyway. Admittedly, I do have it slightly buried under some other books, but I do have the spine out. Not that would notice, anyway as long as I keep it in my room. Which I have. I did like it. Sometimes I felt like she was laying the beauty descriptions on a bit too thick, but it goes with the genre, I suppose. It did feel a little more forced in that respect than slash fanfic. Well, the good type, anyway.

Ooh I've been wanting to read that book! So it's good? I was gonna get it until I saw one that I wanted to read even more. It's fantastic - Faith & Fidelity, by Tere Michaels. It was my first m/m novel, and yeah, sooo much better than just reading fanfic. :)

I did! And it's got more action than I expected, which is awesome. I grinned when I read her notes and she mentioned Patrick O'Brian, one of my favourite authors ever. Ooh, I'll have to check that out. Though I technically should not be buying more books right now with the big pile I have unread, but... it's hard to resist, you know?

Me too. <33

It's so wonderful. Especially now that fall is here and you can cocoon yourself under the blankets.

I hope you can work out the last of your internet problems soon. Though you must admit being without it forces you to do other things, like read hardcopy books and work on novels. False Colors does sound pretty good, kind of taking all the subtextual hoyay inherent in novels set in the Age of Sail and making it text.

Yeah. I am going to be able to right without taking those completely irresponsible "breaks" online on a whim. I still need to solve it as soon as possible, though, since my cousin depends solely on the wireless. Yes, that's precisely what it is. It's very refreshing.

I know how you feel :/ I'm supposed to be writing my own screenplay, but I keep reading other people's. *sigh*

Well, reading others' work is one of the ways you learn how to write yourself. It's essential, really. All the readings manuals I've read say that if you want to write well, you need to read, read, and read some more.

I highly recommend this one. (http://www.amazon.com/Zero-at-Bone-Jane-Seville/dp/1935192809/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254500717&sr=1-2) I bought this book last spring and started reading it the week after I graduated and came home. And no lie, I would stay up super late reading it, go to bed, and then pick it up again first thing in the morning when I woke up. So I totally feel you about the whole "loving to curl up in bed with an actual book" thing. :D

*checks out book* Okay, now I want to read that one, too. I'm going to have to pace myself or I'll never get any work done. But it's so much fun.

Yeah, if my reading of other slashy books is anything like the way I read that one, I'd never get anything done either. :)

I just bought it. So don't be surprised if I don't a peep the day it comes in the mail, because I'll probably forget that the computer exists.
