Deadwood is on my list of shows I must try. I've heard such good things about it, and it looks really intriguing. I'll have to let you know what I think of it when I finally get around to seeing an episode.
And I will have to give Battlestar and The Wire another try one of these days. I'm still puzzled as to why they didn't grab me (since the recommendations came from one of my best friends and my dad, the two people whose TV tastes are most in line with my own). It may just be a matter of watching it at the right time. Sometimes you don't appreciate things the first time round, you know?
