I was in a good mood today.

I've been anxious ever since I got that e-mail from Goldmsiths, thinking that maybe they'd already accepted me and the letter was in the mail. Since we live in the sticks, the mail people doesn't deliver to the house, so we have to go to the Post Office to pick it up. I really wanted to do it yesterday, but I had the option between getting stuck in this huge traffic jam or skipping it by just going home. I chose the second option. So I finally went today to check the mail, hoping that I might find have gotten something from them (or Birkbeck, I haven't even gotten a hint from them). and I did find a letter from them, requesting that I submit evidence that I know English. Apparently the personal statement and research proposal aren't enough. I was so almost certain that I would finally get an acceptance letter from someone so I could finally get moving on getting a VISA and housing, but noo. I'm going to e-mail them to explain that, no, I don't have an IELTS or a TOEFL score, because I've been speaking this language my whole life, therefore, I didn't take those tests. My Dad says that a letter from my old school, which is all in English might be enough. All I know is that I wanted to write and now I feel like hell. I think I'm just to watch something.

I just realized that the letter is dated March 19. That was two weeks ago! Why didn't they just send an e-mail like the fees officer did?

Um. Wouldn't being able to write and COMMUNICATE WITH THEM in English be proof that you know English? Stupid, stupid, stupid people.

I know! Universities are so picky about the whole Language Proficiency thing. And they want a score for everything. I think part of the problem is that Goldmsiths, unlike the over universities, don't ask outright in their applications whether or not English is your first language. They just have a section for you to fill if English is not your first language, so I left it blank. I just sent them an e-mail asking what other evidence might work. But seriously, it's ridiculous.

I'm still astonished they STILL haven't gotten back to me at all yet. Nothing. It's not like I care, but if I hadn't decided to stay in Australia, I'd care A LOT. Goldsmiths was one of my number one choices, and for them not to get back to me at ALL...

Man, it all seems a little disorganized and, well, unprofessional to me.

I can only help you can clear the language issue up quickly so that they can actually tell you whether you got in or not already! Not knowing must be so frustrating. =|

That is infuriating. When I was applying for a Bachelors, the University of Miami didn't respond. I wasn't that interested in going anyway, but still.

I got a reply from someone at the admissions office saying that he didn't understand why they were asking me about that since I'm a US national, though he can't look at my file because it's being reviewed by academic staff. I e-mailed him back, saying that maybe it's because Spanish is the official language of Puerto Rico, although many people speak English to varying degrees of proficiency. Hopefully they'll clear this up soon. And, yes, it's incredibly frustrating! I'm having stress attacks like every two days over this.
