Usually New Year's here is 'eh', but at the party we went to there was a couple and their daughter from Chicago, which gave me a nice prompt into a conversation, which I always seem to desperately need. The daughter, who is around my age, majored in anthropology, the mom is a professional artist and makes paintings, sculptures, etc. She showed us some examples on her iPhone and it all looked so amazing. And guess what? The dad looked just like John McCain. A bit slimmer in the face, but seriously. He could be a lookalike. I got a definite liberal vibe from them, so I'm sure they're not McCain supporters, but they still get a kick out of it. And his first name, by the way: John. Seriously.

I finished the essay today. Finally. It's 200 words overboard. Of course.

I'm debating whether to buy Perfect Parents or not. Dad gave me $60 to spend in DVDs to make up for those ill fitting shirts I got for Christmas, but I did just spend $130 on Doctor Who and Deadwood (and potentially more if I ask Dad to forward Deadwood to me in London. But I've been wanting to get this one for a while because despite every review of the movie I've seen (all bad), I like it. A lot. I would also kinda like Let Him Have It, but I'm not sure I could bear seeing the ending again.

LMAO at the McCain look-alike. And how weird that is that they have the same first name! Although I guess it would be weirder if it were a more uncommon name...

Seriously! They joke about it a lot, too. His daughter's friend's boyfriend took a picture with him so he can put on his desk at work to mess with people. He works at the Department of Justice. John's wife also suggested that they should take a picture at the casino in front of the craps table since McCain loves craps.

Heh, I actually have Perfect Parents at the moment, having ordered it from Netflix ages ago and never gotten around to watching it (which happens with depressing frequency, but I digress). I should watch it, though. Soonish.

And I know how you feel about Let Him Have It; it has some very...oddly sweet moments, but the ending is just too wretching. And I realized yesterday, when I was in the mood for something CE related but with a happy ending, that there just isn't any such thing. That I own, anyway. Grr, CE. And the ones I keep wanting to buy of his aren't any better; Revenger's Tragedy, which I will get once I hunt down a good price for it, is likewise, well, tragic.

Well, actually Perfect Parents ends well. Not everyone in the movie does, but his family is okay. I wouldn't call it happy exactly since two of the characters end up a but unsatisfied, but there's no... um... I was going to say tragedy, but, well, it has sad parts. But all ends well. I want to see it now. Do you know that even though it's a British movie I can only find it in Region 1? Even in Amazon.uk. That's the version I want anyway, but it's weird.

Well, it is a tragedy It's obligated to depress you.

Really?!? Hot damn! Time to watch it now, then! Or probably not. But soon, soon. That is weird; I wish I had that problem with "Clocking Off" but...*sigh* Nope. Have yet to find it in a format I could watch it.

Yeah, yeah. Well, it actually doesn't depress me that much. Not to the degree Let Him Have It does, at least; I mean, you see it coming, and in a sense, you can tell that Vindici does as well. Whereas poor Derek...*sniff*

I should rent that one and borrow someone's laptop or something to watch it. Damn companies and they're Machiavellian regimes.

Oh, Derek. *cries with you*

You really should! And tell us about all of the awesome CE being adorable and not-quite-so-angsty moments that we'll miss.

I'm not sure which is worse, the moments with Derek, or the last scenes with his family...*sobs*
