Title: Storm Clouds
Summary: Sol reflects on Seth.
Rating: G

Sol knows Seth better than anyone. He knows the anger that lays coiled in Seth’s breast, wound as tightly as a rattlesnake’s tail, waiting to be released in a sharp crack that stings the air. And the fury that sweeps him up in its cold fist until his hands are red with blood.

Sol knows the guilt that lives in his eyes, blunt as a dull blade, yet acrid enough that it sours the air around him. Sol can taste the bitterness on his tongue. It is a taste he has come to know well, come to accept as part of his life with Seth, but has never welcomed.

Sol knows that when Seth’s most dangerous emotions are released, there is no dam that can hold back the floodwaters. Yet Sol tries keep the river from sweeping away those in his path and most of the time he succeeds. Other times Sol can only watch as the river overflows its banks, taking Seth with it. Sol fears for Seth then, fears that he will stray too far from his course and wander aimlessly in the dark. Sol imagines what will become of his friend then and his heart shivers. A hollow shadow of the man he used to be, perpetualy lost, for one cannot find light in that darkness. Sol fears that above all, for he knows how easily it can become reality.

He sees the storm clouds gather in the months since Alma Garret entered their lives. He hears the wind quicken and feels the sprinkling of the first drops of rain. And he hopes that this will not be the time that he loses Seth to the storm.
