I've noticed something. Discussing Heroes online works while in real life it really doesn't. Mostly because online I can chose what discussions to take part of while in real life I always end up talking to someone whose opinion is the opposite of mine. The first time the person I was talking to liked volume 3 and though Peter was kinda pointless without his original endless powers. After my trying to explain my view resulted in a confused stare, a change in subject rapidly ensued. Yesterday it was over someone complaining that Mohinder has disappeared and that he's not even doing the voiceovers anymore, at which I instantly thought, "That's why the voiceovers don't annoy me anymore!" But of course I couldn't say that. I just stayed very quiet and turned over the meatballs on the stove. I hate disagreeing so thoroughly with people's fannish opinions to their face. It's so awkward. Oh, and don't even bring up Claude.

"Who?"

"The invisible guy?"

*blank stare* "Oh yeah, that guy."

*facepalm*

How am I supposed to have a conversation with people?

You know, I've actually found the exact same thing with Claude. The only outside-world real person who's remembered him was also a Doctor Who fan. It's one of those reminders that fandom fans are really a very small minority of the fanbase in general; not everyone has such insane, full-throttle, in depth discussions about random things that we do. It really can be exhausting, though, because we've thought all of this through so much and it's like trying to explain calculus to someone who's still shaky on addition; so many steps to get from "It's lame that Peter doesn't have his original powers" to "it's much better for the storyline because it keeps him from having an obvious deus ex machina that, when he doesn't use it, makes him look like an idiot".

Yeah, that's why I've had problems discussing my shows with people, because they're always non fandom people and my meticulous attention to detail and theorizing comes off sounding a little odd. I've had luck meeting fandom people for manga and anime and it's a completely different world of discussion.

Plus I think most people don't realize just how much you can overanalyze a show like Heroes. But Plaude fans especially are really, really good at it, because we have to be. I was at a birthday party (of the friend that first introduced me to the show, as a matter of fact) and got into several discussions about it, referencing all sorts of theories and backstory, and most people were amazed that I a) knew it and b) cared so much. We're such nerds, in other words.

I know! Okay, I get not recognizing the name at first because I'm horrible with names myself and there are an awful lot of characters in this show, but he's the one and only Invisible Man. He's Claude Rains! C'mon!
