Title: Promise
Pairing: Hiro/Ando
Rating: PG
Summary: Set during "How to Stop an Exploding Man" in the Yamagato office right before Hiro teleports to New York. Hiro doesn't want to leave without letting Ando know how he feels.
Disclaimer: I own nothing but my own words.
Title: Promise
It’s an impulse, sudden, desperate that propells him across the narrow space between them and urges him to press his mouth to Ando’s. The kiss is much too short, a mere brush of lip on lip, yet a warm tingle of that cherished, desired mouth lingers as he draws back, afraid of looking Ando in the eye, worrying that he might have overstepped the bounds, revealed more of his emotions than his friend is willing to accept. But in a heartbeat Ando is pulling him into the cubicle, back toward the warmth that’s always brimming from him and wraps him up in a kiss that leaves him boneless and tingling and aching. Surprise has no space to surface until after they separate long afterwards, and even then it only finds a couple of inches to squeeze through between their flushed faces, bursting on Hiro‘s face with a big, dopy grin.
“I was afraid you wouldn’t…” he murmurs.
“I was afraid of the same thing,” Ando says, returning his smile with a bright one of his own.
They kiss again, Hiro’s heart bursting with happiness at the love he feels in Ando’s touch. They hold each other tighter than they’ve ever been held, chest to chest, shoulder to shoulder. In that moment, Hiro feels perfect happiness.
He doesn’t want to let go, not ever, but he must, just for a little while, just long enough to finish his mission.
“I have to go,” he whispers into Ando’s ear.
“I know,” Ando replies. “You have to be a hero.”
They draw back, slowly, reluctantly, neither wanting to give up the warmth they’ve just gained yet, but it’s okey. Hiro knows it will be as soon as he sees the faith in Ando’s eyes.
“I’ll be back as soon as I can,” Hiro says, giving Ando‘s hand a quick squeeze. “I promise.”
Ando returns the pressure before letting go, saying, “You better.”
Grinning, Hiro picks up Ando’s sword and concentrates. The image of Ando’s smiling face stays behind his closed eyelids all the way back to New York.
